My Paintings and Drawings
In recent years, painting has occasionally taken a back seat. My work on electronic music, the visual design of my music covers,
and my activities for SBB-Verlag, where I colorize historical photographs, require a great deal of time and attention. Nevertheless,
painting remains an essential part of my artistic expression, something I do not want to abandon and intend to pursue more intensively again.
The foundation of my visual work is unmistakably the coke plant. The technical structures, the oven batteries, the pressure machines,
the pipelines and quenching towers shape my motifs. I am particularly fascinated by patina layers and surfaces that visibly carry
their industrial history, as well as the filigree, multi-part structural frameworks made of struts, crossbeams and hollow profiles whose
technical complexity impresses me time and again.
Many works are created directly after a plant visit - an attempt to capture the atmosphere, structure and monumentality of a living coke plant.
Some of these depictions of the Ruhr region were shown in exhibitions of the ATK and its predecessor association until 2007.
The following works offer an insight into my drawing and painting practice.
